“Our Data-Link units allow us time to fix the problem or shut equipment down before the threshold where damage is likely to occur. Not knowing of high temperatures in our equipment rooms is a big deal. To avoid the loss of telephone service, the system’s ability to notify us of alarms is crucial.”
Terry Schimon - Telecom Network Specialist for Pierce County

Environmental Monitoring

Your business relies on equipment that costs thousands of dollars, yet many of the adverse environmental conditions that can cause this equipment to fail remain outside the view of your Network Management System.

Asentria products can monitor remote environmental conditions, and notify you before your equipment is damaged or destroyed.  Our environmental monitoring capabilities include:

Environmental Monitoring

Asentria offers many different products which can monitor environmental conditions and notify you before your equipment is damaged.  In order to determine which of our products best suits your application, please review the topics below and then use the Product Selection Wizard at the bottom of the page to identify the product that is right for you.

On-board Temperature/Humidity Sensors
Several Asentria products offer the following on-board (internal) environmental sensor options:

  • Internal Temperature Sensor
  • Internal Humidity Sensor
  • Contact Closure Inputs (to interface with external mechanical sensors)

The internal temperature and humidity sensors are designed to measure the environmental conditions directly in the vicinity of the Asentria product, typically located in an equipment rack.

By using Asentria contact closures inputs you can also connect remote mechanical sensors to monitor additional remote environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, water, smoke, etc) . Asentria offers a number of mechanical sensor accessories which you can read more about below. (back to top)

Remote EventSensor™ Sensors
Looking for a system that is inexpensive to scale when your monitoring needs expand? Our modular EventSensor system eliminates redundant hardware so you only buy what you need now, and add on additional sensors later.  Several Asentria products come equipped with an EventSensor Port that allows you to connect external EventSensor Modules. The inexpensive modules allow you to sense temperature, humidity, contact closures and analog inputs, and also provides you with the ability to switch relay outputs.  You can connect EventSensor Modules hundreds of feet away from the base unit via standard CAT5 cable, which both powers and communicates with the EventSensor devices.(back to top)

Mechanical Temperature/Humidity Sensors
Using the contact closure input capabilities of the SL81, you can connect mechanical sensors which generate a contact closure when a threshold is exceeded.  A home thermostat is an example of this type of mechanical environmental sensor.  Asentria offers a mechanical thermostat sensor and a mechanical humidistat sensor which have been tested and approved for use with our products.(back to top)

Mechanical Water/Smoke Sensors
Using the contact closure input capabilities of the SL81, you can also connect water sensors and smoke detectors.  We offer a mechanical water sensor and a mechanical smoke detector which have been tested and approved for use with our products.(back to top)

Intrusion Detection
Using the contact closure input capabilities of the SL81, you can also connect magnetic door sensors, which can tell you when secured doors, windows, and cabinets are opened or closed.   We offer a mechanical door sensor which has been tested and approved for use with our products.(back to top)

Alarm Notification
Alarm messages can be sent over the network, and sometimes over a modem.  SNMP Traps are the most common form of alarm notification when integrating with a Network Management System.   To receive SNMP Traps, customers may utilize their existing SNMP software, or Asentria AlarmManager software, which is now available free.  Some products do not support modem alarms or email alarms.
